St George's Lisbon

The history of this church dates back to 1656, when the land of the present British Cemetery was promised for a burial ground, but the present church within the Cemetery was not consecrated until 1889. It is therefore a High Victorian building, well suited for traditional Church of England worship and the music of a fine organ. The main Sunday service of Holy Communion is celebrated at 11.30 a.m. and we welcome especially visitors to drinks in the Church Hall afterwards.
The church is entered through a gate at the Rua São Jorge 6, north of the Estrela Garden. Buses 9, 20, 27 and 38 stop at the entrance.
